Frozen Grapes – This fun and novel snack idea creates something a little like icecream only very healthy. We like to skewer our grapes and freeze one for each child. You can also just put them in a bowl and stir them around every little bit until they are completely frozen. You can even use grapes that are slightly past their prime.

Do you remember the homemade pudding pops your grandmother used to make? I sure do, and believe me they will still be a big hit all these years later. I have my grandma’s recipe for Home-Made Pudding Pops, but I want to try one of these awesome ideas.

Afternoon Siesta – In some of the hottest climates in the world an afternoon siesta is a part of the culture. This is so smart. These summer heat waves will wear you out! You can assure your children that no one needs to actually sleep. Quiet restful play on each bed will help everyone re-charge and face the heat without melting down.

Need to use less water while looking to beat the summer heat? Here are 7 great ways to accomplish both.

Make Your Own Fan:  Your kids will enjoy this fun project because each item they make will have significant usefullness. You can start with a simple folded paper fan, or cut shapes out of cardboard, decorate and add a popsicle stick handle to create more visual interest.

Cold Washcloth Trick – Give each hot and sweaty person in your home a cold washcloth from the freezer when they are ready for quiet time or bed. A cold washcloth placed on the forehead helps an overheated person fall asleep.

Cold Meals – Make meal-time all about getting the chill. Frozen smoothies for breakfast, refrigerated soups for lunch, and chilled pasta salads or veggie salads  or crudite’ for supper. Check out my Top Ten Recipes to Beat the Summer Heat.

Library Books – Make friends with your local librarian and find the best of the best books to read aloud to your children. Cuddled up in the air-conditioning this is a great way to beat the heat. And it’s free! Be sure to get extra books for your kids to read on their own.

Do you have some great ideas for beating the heat without wasting water? I know lots of communities are on water restrictions right now so let’s share some ideas!

We don’t even bother skewering the grapes–just put them in a bowl to freeze and enjoy prying them out. 🙂

And I make popsicles with just plain yogurt or with yogurt and fruit, sometimes blended and sometimes with whole chunks of fruit. Occasionally fruit juice, but those are just so sticky!

My son made some with cucumber once…I thought that was pretty weird and I wouldn’t even taste them, but I couldn’t complain about the nutritional value, and he loved them. He also made one with sweet corn once. He didn’t like that one so much, but he ate it!

Yes, I mentioned the option of throwing them in a bowl. Sometimes we do that, but the skewers get my kids all excited about it so I let them do the job. Also, Forgot to mention that this method saves slightly mushy grapes.

I think cucumber could be good! And, I love the yogurt idea. I have some kefir in the fridge right now that I could use….

Frozen grapes are such a simple treat, but my girls and I always enjoy them like they are a delicacy.
