Every single year, I say I’m going to do this. I’m definitely going to find a list of verses related to Thanksgiving and read them together with my kids leading up to the actual holiday in the U.S. And until this year, I’ve failed over and over.

But this year I finally put that list of verses together – 30 verses in all – and created a printable checklist so we can work our way down the list. This year, we are going to focus on what God’s word has to say about Thanksgiving and praising Him for the wonderful things He has done for us. And turkey. I’m pretty sure there will be turkey too.

Have you ever noticed how much our attitudes improve when we are focused on thankfulness? I’ve seen it in myself, and I’ve seen it in my kids as well. Nothing brings life into focus more than the ability to realize how much we’ve been blessed by God. Isn’t He incredible?

That’s what I want my kids to remember about me – that I was thankful to God for all of His many gifts, even when those gifts didn’t look the way I wanted them to look.

That’s the hard part isn’t it? Thankfulness even when our circumstances don’t look good to us. Gratitude in the face of adversity and trials. Giving thanks in all circumstances – it’s a challenge that can be hard to swallow.

It’s also a testimony to the goodness of God, a legacy for our kids, and a memorial for our family. That’s why I wanted a printable checklist of Bible verses for Thanksgiving – because it brings us back to God’s word over and over and over in a ridiculously busy season and reminds us each day that God is good. All the time.

Maybe the hard days won’t come in November, but they will come. And our family will have these days of Bible reading and thankfulness activities in our hearts. My prayer is that you will join us, and that you will be blessed.
