I want my children to be captivated by the Ancient history of the Israelite nation, and I have to tell you that this new book by David Down is captivating.  I’ve read the stories myself dozens of times and yet I didn’t want to put the book down!  Unveiling the Kings of Israel takes the story of Israel beginning with Noah and weaves it together with historical and archaeological evidences, scientific background, beautiful illustrations, pictures of artifacts and ruins, and even ancient maps.

Unveiling the Kings of Israel reads very much like a beautifully illustrated and commentated children’s Bible.  Each sections begins with a summary page and timeline, and then provides rich detail and background for the story told in that chapter.  It is written simply enough that it can be read aloud to elementary age children and is informational enough to keep at least one adult (me!) reading.  Junior high students can easily read this book for themselves as a supplement to an Ancient history curriculum.

My Bottom Line:  I would purchase this book in a heartbeat.  I plan on requiring it of my older children when we return to Ancient history if they do not claim it sooner.  I am already looking for other material by the same author.  You will love this book.  I give this book my highest recommendation (five stars!) and you know that doesn’t happen very often.
