Planning a summer vacation or trip around the US? Use these tips to help your family save money on your next road trip!

Planning a summer vacation or trip around the US? Use these tips to help your family save money on your next road trip!

Road trips are a great time for family bonding and sightseeing. You can get some great road trip plans on the Internet to find the best scenic routes and to find the best attractions along the way.

While you’re planning out your road trip, it’s also wise to consider the cost that comes with it. Road trips can easily drain your wallet if you aren’t properly prepared.

Here are a few things you can do to save money on your next road trip. You can have an amazing road trip without breaking the bank.

How to Save Money on Your Next Road Trip

1. Pack a small ice chest with at least one meal and some cold snacks.

This will help prevent you from overspending at restaurants and will also allow you to eat healthier on the road. I also like to pack a few fruit bowls for a quick and healthy snack. Blueberries and strawberries always hold up well in the ice chest. Apples and bananas are great too, and don’t need to be refrigerated.

2. Watch your speed and drive a little slower.

Most interstates here in the US have speed limits of up to 75 miles per hour. While it might seem nice to go faster and get to where you are going quicker, you are actually burning fuel at very high rate. Instead, try keeping your speed under 70. You burn a lot less fuel and save money on gas.

3. Bring your own drinks.

A bottle of water at a gas station can easily run you nearly $2 a bottle. If you buy a six pack of bottled water at your local superstore you are likely to only pay $4 for the entire pack! This also holds true for soft drinks and energy drinks. Use water bottles, and refill them in public places along the way.

4. Check coupon sites to save money at restaurants.

Check websites like restaurant.com to save some serious cash when you want to eat out. Restaurant.com sells gift cards that are below face value. Sign up for the email list and they will send you coupon codes that you can use on the already discounted gift cards!

5. Check for specials on museums and zoos along the way.

During certain times of the year, museums, zoos, and similar attractions will hold different specials that can save you a ton of money. Sometimes they will even work together and offer a discounted package for attending both places.

For example, in New Orleans, you can save money on the Zoo and the Aquarium Of Americas by purchasing a package that includes both destinations. Look for these bundled packages that are along your road trip route.

6. Use the GasBuddy app.

Easily find the cheapest gas on your route by downloading the free app called Gas Buddy.

These simple ideas will save you a ton of money on your next road trip while still allowing you to have an amazing and memorable vacation! When you return home not only will you be refreshed, but you will still have money in the bank too!
