I’m guessing you have hundreds of scratched DVDs that don’t work any more too. Every single Veggie Tale we own is scratched. 321 Penguins? Scratched. What’s in the Bible? Scratched. All the DVDs are scratched for goodness sake. We were even careful! We had sleeves and a process and…we had kids. Six kids finding and playing DVDs on their own because that’s what moms need kids to do. Especially when we are making dinner.
So yeah. We have a completely awesome but totally worthless collection of kids’ DVDs and sometime in the last few years we switched over to buying our digital copies of movies online. At $20 each, we have been slowly (very slowly) replacing our collection. I realized one day that my eight-year-old twins have never even heard the Water Buffalo song. That’s just sad.
(Sing it with me now. Everybody’s got a WATER BUFFALO. Mine is fast but yours is slow…)
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Kendra from JellyTelly about partnering with them to promote their new service by giving away a subscription plus a Roku stick on my site. Well, first I had to go find out exactly what JellyTelly is. The more I investigated this brand new iOS app the more I fell in love. (Officially, it’s available on iOS devices, Google Play, Roku, and any computer. If you can connect your computer to the television through something like AppleTV, you can even watch JellyTelly on your television!)
It’s like being able to live-stream everything that Phil Vischer has created. Well, you know. Most of it anyway. I don’t really know him personally to ask him if it’s every single thing. But ALL the Veggie Tales. And What’s In the Bible, and 321 Penguins, and way more than I ever knew existed before – including shows by other creators too. So cool!
In total, JellyTelly.com has 117 different shows and almost 2000 episodes of your favorite Christian shows for your kids. You can literally hand your iPad or other device to your child no matter where you are and provide them with instant, wholesome, Christian entertainment. Standing in a long line? JellyTelly. Waiting for a doctor? JellyTelly. Rainy day inside? JellyTelly. Waiting in the car for a sibling? JellyTelly. Wanna have a family movie night? JellyTelly! It’s like the answer to every entertainment crisis you have for children under – I don’t know. Fourteen maybe? My thirteen-year-old certainly enjoys watching!
Okay – so here’s my favorite part. It’s all based on Christian values and a Christian worldview. Unlike the other kids’ live streaming video app we have, the selections in Jelly Telly are all positive, healthy, and based on a Christian view of life. That is priceless.
Here’s how it works: You purchase your subscription on the website and this gives you a login that will allow you to access JellyTelly from any device you own. A JellyTelly subscription will cost you $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. That’s so affordable and you have instant access to all of the shows. Theo. Friends and Heroes. Knight School. VeggieTales. Did I mention that one already? Mandie. Kingdom Under the Sea. Yancy and Friends. The Torchlighter’s Club. The list just goes on and on.
So the big question: Will kids actually watch and enjoy JellyTelly? Well, I don’t know about your kids specifically, but I’m betting that they will. I have four kids who will choose to watch something in the JellyTelly app on a daily basis. My kids absolutely love it. These kids are ages 13, 11 and twin 8-year-olds. That’s a pretty broad range. And I already know from past experience that younger kids will also enjoy many of these shows.
(I probably shouldn’t admit this but one of my kids started watching VeggieTales in a bouncy seat at six months old. I had to have some way to do the dishes! And she loved it even then! And she was within my sight the whole time, btw.)
Also – I’ve never once had to explain to my kids how this app works. It is very easy to figure out and for my little ones I can just hand it to them to let them pick out what they want to watch. It gives them ownership!
My bottom line. If you have kids under ten you most definitely need JellyTelly in your life. If your kids are all older than ten it might depend on how much access they’ve had to television, but as I said, both of my tween/young teens love it. I’ve even caught my eighteen-year-old watching shows a few times.
