“When you let your own light shine, you unconsciously give others permission to do the same” ~ Author Unkown

When I saw this quote on my Fashion Story wall, it started me thinking about what it means to shine your light. I’ve known the song ‘This Little Light of Mine” as long as I can remember, but I’ve never really given it much thought. First I thought about how, when I don’t know what to do, I watch the people around me for clues. I watch for other lights and follow them so to speak. After I caught myself doing this a few times, it struck me. Am I not shining my light enough? Or even at all?

What do others see in you? Do they see light? Take a look at teen blogger Clara Blevins as she shares lessons she is learning about letting her light shine.

As a young Christian, I have and will most likely have many opportunities to shine my light and be a good example. This quote comes to me at odd times, but I will say I feel more conscious of what I am doing and how others will read my example. I keep seeing and hearing more and more things that seem to reenforce this quote with biblical backup.

For example the verse of the day for June 2, 2014 was John 13: 34, 35 which says “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Another verse — which just happens to be one of my favorites — is 1 Timothy 4: 12 ” Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” I have heard even more via the radio and even last Sunday’s sermon talked about this a little.

I have always been a little shy, so being a good example no matter the situation is something that will be hard for me. But I am planning on doing my best. This quote has had an effect on me that I would have never expected and it has also supported something I’ve said on my Fashion Story blog over and over again:  “What we do and say in the game is important.”  Let your light shine!
