If you are like me, you always wait until the day before New Year’s Eve and as you wander through the grocery store, you are trying to figure out how to make the holiday over-the-top. The problem is at that point it is too late without a plan! That’s why I’m helping you get your plan for New Year’s together now, ahead of time, before you hit the grocery store aisles so you know exactly what you are going to purchase and why.
Haven’t you ever gotten to the day after a party only to realize you didn’t use half the things you threw in your cart because you didn’t have a solid plan? Yeah, me neither. Okay – I totally do that. So this year we are planning the most incredible family-friendly New Year’s Eve. party ever, and we are doing it ahead of time. Are you with me? There are three things you need to have a fabulous party: food, games, and people. That’s it. Easy right? Let’s break it down and form our plan as we go. For food and games, you can get everything you need at your local Food Lion, because Food Lion is all about helping us make more merry this time of year.
When planning the most incredible family-friendly New Year’s Eve party ever, you are to need the most incredible food. So let’s talk about food. You are throwing a party and planning games for all ages, so you probably aren’t going to want a formal sit down meal – you are going to want party food. Finger foods! Be sure to check the Weekly deals to get extra menu ideas. For New Year’s I’m usually with my extended family and all the nieces and nephews. My family and I like to keep it easy and please the kids, so we make finger foods our kids will all love. This will include some easy choices, like cracker-sized slices of cheese, washed grapes, or strawberries, and thinly sliced summer sausage. For those items, you don’t even need a recipe!
In addition, we will usually have tiny smoked sausages in bbq sauce, pigs-in-a-blanket, deviled eggs, and one or two kinds of hot homemade dips. It seems like no matter how many deviled eggs I make, the kids gobble them up! One year, I made 48 deviled eggs (24 actual eggs) and they were all gone. Its super simple to make deviled eggs using your pressure cooker, and they peel so easy. Just five minutes on high pressure, five minutes natural release, then quick release the rest of the way and five minutes in an ice bath. Then you just peel, remove the yolks and mix them with a little mayonnaise, salt, and pepper, sprinkle the tops with paprika, and you are ready to serve! Once you’ve decided on a menu, making the grocery list is easy and your food planning is done. Food Lion has great ideas for a kid-friendly New Years! I love much inspiration they have for the holidays on their blog. Next up let’s talk about choosing the games. My family and I like to play card games and with so many to choose from its an easy solution! Grab a handful of new card decks when you are at Food Lion, and you will be ready to go. One game my family loves to play over any holiday is called Bunko. It’s a fun game all ages can play and you can set it up so that everyone gets a prize! You’ll need lots of card decks and the instructions for Bunko, plus a variety of card decks for all ages of players. You will also need a card table for each set of four players, and you will need a crowd! We also like to play Hand and Foot Canasta, which is a little bit less work as you just need to show up with the card decks on New Year’s Eve and one or two games will pass the night away. Canasta also requires fewer people but can accommodate up to eight. Our kids – ranging in age from 7 -19, like to play a game called Spoons, or Slap Jack. The older kids will also play hand and foot, so everyone can get in on the fun. If you have little ones that won’t be joining in for the card game fun – make sure you grab some paper and colored pencils or pictures to color. The only other thing you need to have the most incredible New Year’s Eve party ever is a crowd! For us, that means siblings and grandparents and cousins galore and we have a blast. You might want to invite neighbors or friends – so make you sure you find some invitations and get those sent out well in advance. The typical time for invitations is three weeks and the easiest thing to do is send invitations by email.
We’ve got a fantastic plan in place, and you are ready to pull off the best New Year’s Eve party ever – so pull out your grocery list and order everything using Food Lion to Go.
