All of us start homeschooling with the desire to be successful in our endeavors to teach our kids and prepare them for life. What are some elements that are needed in our lives to help us attain that success we desire?
6 Elements for Success in Your Homeschool
1. Commitment to walk with God daily
Everything we do in our homeschooling needs to rest on the foundation of our relationship with Jesus Christ. This is where our daily strength comes from, and the wisdom to guide the little lives that have been entrusted to our care. No matter how busy you are, you need to make sure you find and make time to walk with God, and be in His Word.
2. A teachable spirit
When we become unteachable, we stop growing! Being teachable will help us to grow and become more effective in our homeschooling. Don’t be afraid to ask others for ideas or help, and ALWAYS ask yourself what you can learn from others.
3. Self-confidence
You have to believe that with God’s help not only can you teach your kids, but you are also the BEST teacher for them. If God has called you to the task, He WILL enable you. Our self-confidence comes from the knowledge that since He called us, He will enable us. We don’t have to try to do it on our own.
4. Self-discipline
Mom, your homeschool will only be as successful as your ability to discipline yourself! We only have 18 years to prepare our children for life, and it is a big responsibility. We must be willing to discipline ourselves to put the time and effort into planning, and following through.
5. Purpose
You need to have a purpose and goals for your homeschool! When you have purpose, you are able to establish your priorities each day to make sure you are heading toward those goals. Without purpose or goals, you end up discouraged and off-track. We must have purpose and vision!
6. Perseverance
There WILL be days that you want to just give up. You will feel like you are failing, like it is more than you can handle, or you are just TIRED and want to quit. Those are the times that you need to remember your purpose and priorities. Focusing on your purpose and priorities is what will help you to persevere on those hard days. Priorities based on your purpose will enable you to make wise choices with your time, and will guide you on trying days.
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Proverbs 29:18
