Every year, I look at Advent calendars in stores and online. And every year I struggle to understand why the Advent calendars are not about Jesus. Advent is ALL about Jesus. Whether we are celebrating His first Advent (which means coming) or eagerly anticipating His second coming, that’s where our focus should be as we count down the days to our celebration.
Why not count down the days by reading the Messianic prophecies and the story of His birth! Why not lead up to Christmas by teaching your kids the truth of the Gospel? Read the Christmas Story with your kids using this free printable Bible Verse Advent Calendar.
That’s why my family started celebrating Advent more in the Christian tradition a few years ago, and it’s also why I’ve created several resources for the celebration of Advent with your family. Advent helps us focus our attention on Jesus each and every day leading up to our celebration of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It’s not foolproof, but it does help us remember that HE is the reason for the season.
