Goodness, my kids got so excited when they saw these homemade jelly soaps shaped like the Millennium Falcon! This is some serious Star Wars fun.
With six kids in the house I have seven die-hard Star Wars fans who are super excited and already have tickets for the upcoming Han Solo movie opening Friday. I’m not one of the movie goers, but I will see it eventually since it will play endlessly at my house for days once it is available for purchase on devices.
We’ve already kicked off the Han Solo fun with these super cool Han Solo in Carbonite hard lotion bug repellent bars. Now we are moving on to soaps! Millennium Falcon soaps to be exact.
These particular jelly soaps are shaped like the Millennium Falcon ship, and we also have some jelly soap shaped like Darth Vader and some jelly soap shaped like Storm Troopers. All of these soaps are super popular with kids and look amazing!
The soaps end up being clear if you use the clear body wash from Trader Joe’s in the recipe. We added a little bit of glitter for some sparkly soap fun and maybe a tiny bit of exfoliating value. But mostly for sparkle. If you don’t like the sparkle it’s totally optional!
Set the Millennium Falcon jelly soaps out in the bathroom at your Han Solo birthday party, give them as party favors for your guests, use them in your Star Wars decorated bathroom, give them as gifts to those Star Wars fans in your life who have everything. The possibilities are endless!
The key here is in the molds you purchase. You can literally make jelly soap in any shape mold you can buy, but we do prefer these Star Wars molds. If your child is into something else – pick something else!
Here are the ingredients you need.
• 1 cup body wash (We got ours at Trader Joe’s, which is almost clear) or Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap (the Castile soap will make your soaps a bit cloudy. For a clear soap, use the body wash.)
• 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin <– We use Wincrest, which is used in special effects makeup. It makes the soaps a bit more solid and durable. You can also use unflavored gelatin from the grocery store.
• 1 cup boiling water
• 1/2 teaspoon liquid vegetable glycerin
• 5-10 drops lavender essential oil <– our favorite is this Lavender from Greece.
• Gel coloring
• Silver glitter
• Star Wars Molds
To make your Millennium Falcon jelly soaps, gather your ingredients and supplies. In a medium bowl, add gelatin. Add hot water. Stir to dissolve gel. Place bowl in microwave for 25 seconds to make sure all gel is dissolved.
Add body wash and glycerin. Add lavender essential oil. Add gel food coloring. Add glitter. Glitter is heavier than the body wash, so it will settle to the bottom, which will be the top of the mold. The more glitter you add, the more it will be on the top of the mold. Give everything a good stir until well combined.
Pour mixture into Star Wars mold and refrigerate for 2-3 hours, or until firm. Sprinkle a bit of glitter on top of mold. Store in an air tight container in the fridge until ready to use. If you don’t keep in the fridge, it may turn mushy.
