It seems like new homeschool parents are leaning strongly towards finding online homeschool options for their children. Online homeschooling is certainly a good way to get your feet wet, and for many families it works out to be a very effective way to homeschool your children. Figuring out what the options are can be a bit of a challenge. While you are here, be sure to check out our post Best Kindle Apps for Homeschooling Online and Homeschool Online: Internet Resources you can use Right Now.

The Best Online Homeschool Options for Online Homeschooling.

Before you start looking for online homeschool curriculum – you need to think about how much or how little online homeschooling you will be doing. Do you want one subject online or all subjects online? Do you want to buy everything you need in one place, or would you like to shop around and build your own subject list? Are you looking for LIVE classes, or do you want pre-recorded classes? Turns out, you’ve got a lot of online homeschooling options!

Online Homeschool Curriculum – Piecemeal.

Most of the online schools I found do allow you to buy individual classes. If you only want to purchase online math, or perhaps an elective you don’t know how to teach, buying just a few classes is the perfect option. Here are some of the publishers of individual classes we have enjoyed.

Essay Rockstar – from Fortuigence. My daughter Clara worked her way through all of Essay Rockstar over the course of one semester and really enjoyed the interaction with her teacher and the feedback she got on her written work. Essay Rockstar takes your student through five different styles of essays and helps prepare them for essay writing in college.

CurrClick – The variety of classes available at Currclick is just astounding. These classes include live options and pre-recorded options, and if you are looking for a variety of electives this is a great place to start!

Alpha Omega Homeschool Monarch curriculum. You can purchase Monarch for all subjects, or just the subjects you need, including electives. The lessons are pre-recorded and the grading is done by computer.

Dayspring Christian Academy offers a single class called The Pilgrim’s Story that is absolutely fabulous. It is too bad that it is the only online class they currently offer, as it is one of the most impressive online courses my children have used – and by the way – they loved it.

All-In-One Solutions for Online Homeschooling

Schoolhouse Teachers is an AMAZING collection of online homeschool courses for all ages, and all subjects. You can purchase this one membership and get everything you need for all children. And, as an added bonus, you get a free membership to Right Now Media — access to tons of educational videos from a Christian perspective. This is the best value I have ever seen for an all-in-one solution for your family online homeschooling.

Alpha Omega Homeschool Monarch curriculum. You can purchase Monarch for all subjects, or just the subjects you need, including electives. The lessons are pre-recorded and the grading is done by computer.

Free Solution for your Online Homeschool

If you are looking for a completely free, self-guided online homeschool, All In One Homeschool is probably exactly what you need. Any child who can read can guide themselves through this curriculum. Parents are encouraged to interact, but the lessons are self-teaching and include instructions, videos, printable worksheets, and more for all subjects. All In One High School is also available.

Now – I’ve only told you my very favorites. But the options are endless!

What do you use as your favorite online homeschool resource?

My daughter needs to be home schooled due to medical issues and the school she attends having issues with accommodating her. I have questions and need answers but get a different version every time I ask or talk to someone. Anyone in TN that might be able to help. This is the first time we’ve ever had to even think about home school and really have no idea where to start. HELP!!!

I’ve been homeschooling in TN for years now. What questions did you have?

There’s also Bright Ideas Press (individual classes in all subjects) and My Fun Science (math & science classes)!

I currently have my son enrolled in the K12 program. I do NOT like this program as it is PUBLIC SCHOOL, it is NOT INDIVIDUALIZED learning like they claim, etc. My son is advanced, he has social anxiety pretty bad and has to be home schooled. I have been searching for an at home alternative to K12. I am so lost. I literally do not know what to do or where to start. I am in Michigan. What are my options? What is the cost? Then end of last year in sixth grade he tested at an eleventh grade level inn every subject but grade level in Math. He never went to Kindergarten, they put him directly into first grade. He is bored with his curriculum at K12 already. Please help. Thank you.

Hi, Amy! I have 4 children but at this time am only considering home schooling the oldest, my son who is 12. He is a gamer and that seems to be his only hobby at this time. Not into sports, music (although he is in band and his teacher has told me he is very talented), reading, NOTHING but video games, specifically Fortnite. We try to limit his time on it and draw him into the family unit but he has become reclusive. Very smart but lazy, both in schoolwork and otherwise, to be honest. I am concerned about him and in while in prayer, homeschooling came to my mind. I don’t really want to do online schooling because he spends too much time on a screen already. I used ACE curriculum from 7th to 12th grade, through Lighthouse Academy. Do you think that would be a good option for him?

I don’t really know anything about the ACE curriculum. Sorry I can’t help!

Hi Rebekah, I am really not familiar with ACE at all. I also have a 13 year old gamer, and we still do some online schooling, but not all. Its definitely a tricky balance!
