Christmas is just around the corner, and for me, the holidays bring this intense drive to create all.the.things. These beautiful wood slice nativity story ornaments are a perfect Christmas Cricut project. I love to decorate with pretty things that keep the focus on Christ at Christmas!

The Cricut makes these awesome ornaments quick and easy. And beautiful too! You can do these yourself, or choose to get your kids involved with helping in the final steps. You and your family can enjoy ornaments that tell the entire Christmas story as the center of attention on your tree. If this is your first time using your Cricut, <–make sure you read this post first.

Here’s what you will need to finish your Wood Slice Nativity Story Ornaments.

  • Cricut
  • Wood slice ornaments — note that mine came pre-tied with red ribbon as shown. These come with jute ties. Go ahead and tie yours before proceeding. If you prefer — here is red ribbon.
  • Permanent vinyl
  • Weeding tool (comes with your Cricut)
  • Transfer tape
  • Little Bows
  • Glue dots or hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Nativity story silhouettes

Creating your Nativity Story Ornaments is so straight-forward using your Cricut and the Cricut Design Space. Start by downloading the Nativity Silhouettes file linked above and separate the different parts of the story into individual images. Next, open the Cricut Design Space and create a new project. Upload your Nativity Story Silhouettes to the Cricut Design Space.

Select to remove the background of the image and save it as a cut file. Then, insert the image into your project and create the scenes as desired.

If all of the details of your ornament will be the same color, click and drag to select the elements for the ornament and select to weld the items together.

Select each scene and size the image to match the dimensions of the ornament.

Cut the images from vinyl by following your Cricut directions. Weed the excess vinyl away.

Use transfer tape to move the designs to the wood slice ornament.

Press firmly or swipe over the transfer tape with a scraper to make sure the vinyl adheres to the ornament. Pull the transfer tape away.

Finally, attach the bows using glue dots.

The resulting Nativity Story Wood Slice Ornaments will be a beautiful addition to your Christmas tree for years to come. This is a great introductory project to try on your Cricut and is just one example of the many beautiful Christmas decorations you can make with this handy tool.

Print the directions for our Wood Slice Nativity Ornaments and keep them handy!
