Ingredients for Decorating The Star Wars Wookie Cookies
- black fondant
- white nonpareil sprinkles in pearl shapes.
Making the Chewbacca Cookies
First, you will mix the dry ingredients of flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl. Then in a separate bowl cream together the butter and sugar until it’s nice and fluffy. To this creamed mixture, add the eggs and beat on high speed again to incorporate. Then add the vanilla.
Slowly add the flour mixture to the cream mixture and beat until just combined. Do not over mix. Next, wrap up your dough, shape it into a large square, and refrigerate it for at least a couple of hours. Overnight is even better.
How to Bake Your Cookies
When you are ready to bake the Wookie cookies, preheat your oven to 350º. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to save on clean-up time! Roll out your dough to between 1/4″ and 1/8″ thickness and cut the cookies out using the gingerbread man cookie cutter.
Bake your cookies for about ten minutes, and then let them cool for ten minutes on the cooling rack.
Decorating Your Chewbacca Cookies Step-By-Step Tutorial
- To decorate the Wookie Cookies, measure the length of the chest area from one shoulder to the opposite hip.
- Roll out black fondant and cut into strips approximately ¾ inch by the measurement of the cookie. Place fondant across the chest of the cookies like a sash, pressing over shoulder and hip.
- Press white nonpareils into fondant sash.
- With remaining black fondant, pinch a small piece and shape it into a tiny ball for the nose. Pinch two smaller pieces a roll them into balls for the eyes. Press into place on the cookie. If the fondant will not stick to the cookies, use a toothpick to gently drill a small hole into the place for the nose and eyes. Then put the fondant in the holes. You could also potentially use miniature chocolate chips for the eyes and nose.
