I remember the first time I saw something in the store by “Rae Dunn” I turned to my husband and said, “Hey, I recognize that font.” As a collector of different fonts, I’ve seen a few. Thousand. Anyway, maybe she hand draws her art, but quite a few look-alike fonts existed before her stuff became popular. So, that’s good news! Because it means you can replicate the look of the infamous Rae Dunn really easily by purchasing a look-alike font to use on your Cricut projects, like these super cute Rae Dunn Inspired Ceramic Christmas Ornaments. You will find step-by-step images and a printable instruction sheet at the end of this post.

If you have teens comfortable with using the Cricut, this is certainly a great project to get your kids involved. My daughter was the first person to insist I get my new Cricut out of the box for our first project, which was all her. She was 16. It’s a pretty straightforward Cricut project for Christmas. If you’ve been here long, you know I cannot resist anything related to the word JOY at Christmas. I collect them for my home. I have an entire gift guide filled with ideas to give JOY gifts to people like me. This project makes me happy.

At Christmas time, my boys start the YOJ WARS as soon as I get the Christmas decorations out. YOJ wars mean that every time they think I’m not looking they turn my Joy signs backward so that they say yoj. Apparently, according to the boys, this intensifies the meaning of the word. Meanwhile, the girls and I walk around returning the signs back to the proper direction. This ornament? It’s a Joy ornament that can’t be turned backward! That puts me in the lead, just in case you thought I wasn’t actually keeping track of the YOJ WAR status. (I also bought hand soap with the word Joy on it this year, and plates for Christmas day that can’t be reversed. I’m pretty sure I’m going to win this one.)

Anyway, if you love a good Cricut project, love the Rae Dunn Inspired look, and love to decorate at Christmas, these beautiful ornaments are the perfect afternoon craft. Here are the instructions. Don’t forget to grab the free printable instruction sheet at the end of this post! You can take it with you to Hobby Lobby for the supplies.
